Power of Presence Mini Course

Day 4.
Make it concrete

Today’s Core Idea

Abstract ideas inform.

Concrete stories move people.

1. Abstract Thinking
Is Not Enough

Many presentations stay abstract.

Experts explain concepts.
They describe models.
They talk in categories.

But abstraction does not activate emotion.
And without emotion, attention drops.

Your audience cannot connect deeply
to something they cannot see.

2. Imagination Creates Engagement

As human beings, we can experience things
through imagination.

We can:
• See images
• Hear sounds
• Feel sensations
• Even smell and taste

If you activate imagination,
you create active listeners.

You move from explanation
to experience.

3. From What Happened to How It Happened

Most people tell stories by listing facts.

“This happened. Then this. Then this.”

But powerful storytelling describes:
What did you see?
What did you hear?
What changed in the room?
What shifted emotionally?

The difference between abstract and concrete
is the difference between reporting
and reliving.

Today’s Exercise

Choose a small everyday moment where you were the hero.

Step 1
Record the story once.
Focus only on what happened.

Step 2
Record it again.
Now describe how it happened.

What did you see?
What did you hear?
What did you feel?

Step 3
Listen back to both versions.
Notice the difference.

Concrete description creates stronger images.
Stronger images create connection

Reflection

When you added description:

Did the story feel more real?

Did emotions become clearer?

Did it become easier to connect?

Going from abstract to concrete

activates imagination.

And imagination creates impact
